The Center Harbor Congregational Church offers a preschool for children ages 3 to 6 where children learn in a healthy, safe and nurturing environment. Through play, and small and large group instruction, we identify the needs of each child and foster their growth as individual learners. The Village Preschool is a fully licensed program that believes in a child-focused, hands-on and nature-based approach to learning. While children will explore different themes throughout the year and participate in some structured activities, the curriculum follows the lead of the children, allowing children the freedom to explore their own interests both indoors and outdoors, which helps students build independence and confidence. Our preschool seeks to serve all children, regardless of race, religion, or disability.

We operate one classroom supervised by two teachers. Being in a mixed age group class allows children to progress at their own rate. In addition children learn from one another. Over the course of a child's time at Village Preschool the student gets a chance to be both learner and mentor.

Our location in the center of the Center Harbor village allows us to extend learning into the community with walking field trips and inviting community members into our school to share with us their experiences and talents. We also offer weekly music classes taught by a retired elementary music teacher and visits with the Center Harbor librarian either at the Nichols Memorial Library or in our own classroom.

At the Village Preschool we believe in meeting children where they are so we are flexible with the schedule to meet the needs for our preschoolers. We also believe that young children learn best when they take the lead, so we provide as much time as possible for spontaneous exploration and activities especially outdoors. We offer a daily outdoor experience and try to offer extended outdoor time as much as possible.

Snapshot of a Preschool Day
A typical Village Preschool day begins with free choice time followed by morning circle, story, and music. Next students participate in an activity and have snack followed by nature exploration/playground time. Students then have lunch, often outside when the weather permits. Following lunch, there is story and activity time and more outside exploration until dismissal.
